Emergency Medical Services are that critical, crucial and cardinal services in Medical care, that encompasses the treatment of illnesses or injuries that require a drastic and dire medical remedy. The EMS provides both out-of-hospital treatment through the paramedic services and transport to definitive care by well equipped ambulances.. The custodians are also colloquially and popularly known as First-Aid Squad, Ambulance Squad or Emergency Squad. Emergency Medical Services can be summoned by public, business or civic authorities via a dedicated emergency telephone number, which puts them in contact with a control facility for necessary action, thereafter. Usually, ambulances are the primary vehicles of transportation in EMS; however cars, boats or even aircrafts are also used in relevant rescue operations needing EMS. As a first resort, MS provides treatment on the scene, to those in need of urgent medical care, and subsequently they are tasked to transfer the patient(s) to the next point of care, which is the emergency services facility of a hospital. Emergency – Conditions and Treatments An emergency medical condition can be defined as unforeseen and unprepared occurrence of a health condition that requires prompt medical attention and/or a surgery. In such cases, where the treatment is unfortunately unavailable, the emergency could lead to weakness in anatomical functions, irreversible and colossal damage to organs and limbs and in severe cases, even death. It is sometimes impossible to diagnose the condition before admitting the patient for treatment, in an emergency situation. In case of a medical emergency, the patient is taken to an examination room, where all treatments and procedures happen. In most cases, a variety of tests are done to accurately diagnose and treat the emergency. In case of a minor injury or illness, the patient is moved from the exam room to other areas for treatment, procedures or waits until the test results are received to expedite the care. In case of severe emergency, the treatment may continue in emergency facility, or the patient may be admitted for medical care, and in some circumstances, he or she can also be discharged to home care with follow up instructions. The most dominant reasons which calls for a visit to the Emergency department are as listed below:

Emergency and Trauma Care – The department of Emergency and Trauma Care has the sole objective of is to lives through improvements to emergency care systems. The objectives are Increasing capacity to provide standardised emergency care and to encourage and promote awareness through a endorsements about its life saving potential. Every year, acutely ill and injured people die every day due to a lack of timely emergency care, with injuries and infections, heart attacks, strokes, breathing problems and acute complications of pregnancy, who are both children and adults. Lot many places have no emergency access telephone number to call for an ambulance or no trained ambulance staff. These gaps result in substantial number of avoidable deaths every year. The Trauma Care Checklist is a simple tool, designed for use in emergency units. It reviews actions at two critical points to ensure that no life-threatening conditions are missed and that timely, live-saving interventions are performed. Advanced Trauma Facility (Level III) – provides resuscitation, stabilization, and assessment of injury victims and either provides treatment or arranges for appropriate transfer to a higher level designated trauma care centre which provides continuous educational opportunities in related topics for trauma health care. Both human resources (staffing and training) and physical resources (infrastructure, equipment and supplies).are equally important and plays significant part in advance treatment of trauma care. Greenleaf Health Centre is one of the few hospitals in Kukatpally, Hyderabad, which has an Emergency Services and Trauma Care facility. The department of Emergency and Trauma Care contributes in objective of treating patients needing emergency care and trauma care treatment with a 360 degree approach, which extends to post trauma rehabilitation advice and counselling to such patients.
